The pages listed below don't really fit in any of the other categories I have in my
writing nav bar. They are simply helpful pages or pages of interest that I thought
visiting writers might find...well...helpful. (Smile) That's why I titled this page the
Writing Extras page. I just didn't know what else to call it.
The first page that popped into my mind that I wanted to list here was the
collection of first sale stories I've put together with the help of some kind new
authors who didn't mind sharing. The Call--First Sale Stories page is filled
with stories that detail the struggles and rejections of authors who finally did
get that phone call that took them from unpublished to published. I hope their
accounting of these tales will help others know that it and does happen,
sometimes quickly and sometimes only after a long, hard battle.
Sometimes it seems that no matter how hard we try, that page just stays blank.
I hope one of my Writing Prompts will help you on those days, or maybe even
help you start a whole brand new novel. I also started a writing prompt group,
RWCprompt. It's a free on line group. Members are sent a new writing prompt
every Monday. You can write a scene from the prompt and use it to help you
move on with your story or a new one, keep it just to yourself, or send it in to
the group. The prompt group is not a critique group, so only positive comments
are allowed. RWC does have a free critique group for those interested in
detailed critiques of their writing.
For published authors I have put together a Promotion How To page. There
you can find links to review sites, prices to place banners on different sites, and
links to businesses that offer promo items like pens, business cards,
bookmarks, ect...
I started not to even list my First Sales Book page, since I don't have the time
to update it very often. It's a great idea, but lots of work to find out which books
are first sales and then list and build links for them. The books listed there are
older, since it is almost always long months, or even longer, between updates,
but if you can find the books listed, it's still a great way to see what kind of
work made that first sale for the author. They are also listed by publisher, so
that can be of a help too.
