Here’s what I know for sure about this little ALSOBROOKS family that was living on a farm in
Lawrence Co., Mississippi when the census was done in 1880. The head of household was a
farmer, Edward ALSOBROOKS. He was born in Mississippi and so were both of his parents.
Since he was 56 years old in 1880, he was probably born in 1824. His wife was named Sarah A.
ALSOBROOKS; she was only a couple of years younger than him, age 54, probably born in the
year 1826. She and her parents were also born in Mississippi.
There are two daughters listed as living with Edward and Sarah in 1880. The oldest is Elizabeth.
She was 23 years old, probably born in 1857, and still listed as single. The other daughter,
Margaret, was 13, probably born in 1867.
There were also two sons still at home, both working on the farm with their father. John Albert
was the oldest. He was 21 years old, probably born in 1859, still single. The baby of the
household at the time was James F., only 11, so probably born in 1869.
Here’s what I’ve found or been told, but I’m not sure of. Edward’s middle name was Graham. His
wife Sarah was a PARKER before she married him, her middle name was Ann. Her father was
Isaac Parker. Her mother was Mary Noland. Sarah's son, John, was born on the 6-15-1859 in
Mississippi, died on the 12-28-1947 in Bogalusa, Louisiana and rests in Pounds Cemetery.
Daughter Margaret might have also been called Marge.
